New England golfers welcomed the start of the 2010 season by celebrating the mid-April debut of Shining Rock Golf Club in Northbridge, Massachusetts, the semi-private club located under an hour from Boston. Carved out of a majestic 165-acre tract of rolling landscape that affords some sweeping views of the historic Blackstone Valley Corridor, Shining Rock Golf Club promises to give every level of golfer a memorable round. The par 72 course measures 6,735 yards from the championship tees and each hole offers three to five tee boxes. The back or Silver tees carry a daunting 139 slope and 74.1 rating, making this circuit one of the toughest tests in the state for a public access course.
The iconic and namesake Shining Rock is a sheer cliff of granite that sits prominently almost 80 feet above the forest floor below and offers breathtaking vistas over 30 miles into Rhode Island and Central Massachusetts. The abundance of mica found in the glacial rock causes the formation to glisten in the sunshine after a rain and was a landmark for early settlers to the Blackstone Valley.
On Course Strategies served as publicists for the client leading up to and during the grand opening in April 2010. Throughout the grand opening, we organized media activities to showcase the course, designer and professional staff. Following the grand opening we maintained ongoing media excitement and demand for information. We continue to generate media interest and golf course rater play.
